Medvedjek (; (ドイツ語:Bärenheim)〔''Leksikon občin kraljestev in dežel zastopanih v državnem zboru,'' vol. 6: ''Kranjsko''. 1906. Vienna: C. Kr. Dvorna in Državna Tiskarna, p. 42.〕〔Simonič, Ivan. 1935. "Kočevarji v luči krajevnih in ledinskih imen." ''Glasnik Muzejskega društva za Slovenijo'' 16: 61–81 and 106–123, p. 72.〕 or ''Bärnheim''〔Ferenc, Mitja. 2007. ''Nekdanji nemški jezikovni otok na kočevskem''. Kočevje: Pokrajinski muzej, p. 4.〕) is a former village in the Municipality of Loški Potok in southern Slovenia. The area is part of the traditional region of Lower Carniola and is now included in the Southeast Slovenia Statistical Region.〔(Loški Potok municipal site )〕 Its territory is now part of the village of Trava.〔Savnik, Roman, ed. 1971. ''Krajevni leksikon Slovenije'', vol. 2. Ljubljana: Državna založba Slovenije, p. 246–247.〕 ==Name== The name ''Medvedjek'' and names like it (e.g., ''Medvedjek, Medvedce, Gorenje Medvedje Selo'') is relatively common in Slovenia as a toponym, choronym, and oronym. The name ''Medvedjek'' was originally *''Medvedjak'' (< *''Medvědьjakъ''), derived from the personal name ''Medved'', which is still a Slovene surname. The surname ''Medved'' is based on the identical common noun ''medved'' 'bear'.〔Snoj, Marko. 2009. ''Etimološki slovar slovenskih zemljepisnih imen.'' Ljubljana: Modrijan and Založba ZRC, pp. 257–258.〕 The German name ''Bärenheim'', literally 'bear's home', is semantically similar.
